How does this tie in with the Cold War?
Well he used the Vietcong to lived in South Vietnam, to have people in there to attack. They were communists so they didn't mind bring down the South Vietnamese. Which this also made it hard for the South and U.S. to know who to trust because they blend in during the day and come out at night. He also creates the Ho Chi Minh trail that leads into the South from the North. This was his way to slow get South Vietnam, but it didn't completely work because it got the U.S. to do the Operation Rolling Thunder on the trail. This was a series of bombs dropped at once which caused more damage especially since the U.S. used chemicals that were suppose to just damage the jungle, but also hurt people. So, yes in a way Ho Chi Minh was achieving to get the South because at some points the U.S. was hitting where the NVA needed them to hit to make tunnels underground. Since the North Vietnam was ahead of the South this made the North strong and soon would help him complete Vietnam as all communism.
How does the World/ U.S. react?
Vietnamese: Most were for the way Ho Chi Minh was going with the war; he was supported by many communists like himself. Then there were the families that were get birth defects with their children because the trails were in the jungle where the U.S. had use chemicals to make easier for them to see the trails. So, there were many doves during this time because there wasn't just birth defects, there was lots of deaths for women, children, and elder.

Ho Chi Minh was a loved by the Vietnamese, but hated by the rich and the Buddhist. He took away the riches money to give to the poor. Minh, also did a lot of favoritism between peoples religion belief. He was a communist, so he got all the North Vietnamese to be too.
