How does this tie in with the Cold War?
The United States used the U-2 as a spy plane. It was used during the Cold War to spy on the Soviets. This soon turned into the U-2 Incident. The incident was to serve by causing more tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.
How does the World/ U.S. react?
United States: Eisenhower told the Soviets that if they were to attack that we would use nuclear weapons to attack back. The U.S. was at loss because tension would grow even bigger with Soviets and cause us to lose a soldier that served in a U-2 plane unless we gave the Soviets one of their spy's back.
World: The Soviets were being threatened by nuclear warfare if they were to attack at the United States. This was all because there was tension between the United States and the Soviets.
